The University of Toledo community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Eva Moran, a 19-year-old freshman student-athlete from Caledonia, Ohio, who died following a traffic accident in Marion County on Friday, May 30, 2026. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred along State Route 309 in Claridon Township and involved three vehicles. Eva was transported to Marion General Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Moran was a member of the University of Toledo women’s track and field team, competing as a pole vaulter while pursuing a degree in Health Sciences. University officials described her as an exceptional student-athlete whose determination, kindness, and positive attitude left a lasting impression on teammates, coaches, and fellow students.

Originally from Caledonia, Moran graduated from River Valley High School, where she excelled in basketball, cross country, and track and field. She qualified for the Ohio State Track and Field Championships three times in pole vault and established the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference record with a vault of 12 feet, one-half inch in 2024. Her achievements made her one of the area’s most accomplished young athletes.

At Toledo, Moran quickly became a valued member of the Rockets program. Coaches praised her work ethic, eagerness to improve, and dedication to her teammates. The university’s athletic department expressed profound sadness following news of her passing, extending condolences to her parents, Alena and Derrek Moran, as well as her siblings, Maddox, Jaxton, and Kya.

Friends, teammates, and members of the University of Toledo community have remembered Eva as a bright, determined young woman whose energy and enthusiasm inspired those around her. While her life was tragically cut short, her accomplishments in athletics, academics, and personal character leave behind a legacy that will not be forgotten.

The thoughts of many across Ohio remain with the Moran family, her friends, teammates, coaches, and all who knew and loved her during this difficult time.
