Motorists across M50 faced major disruption during rush hour after multiple collisions caused severe traffic delays across North Dublin on Wednesday evening.

According to traffic monitoring services and local reports, several incidents along the motorway led to lane restrictions and heavy congestion on both northbound and southbound sections of the M50. Delays were especially severe near major junctions including Finglas, Ballymun, and Blanchardstown as emergency crews responded to collisions during peak commuter hours.

Witnesses described bumper-to-bumper traffic stretching for several kilometers while emergency responders, GardaĆ, and road crews worked to clear damaged vehicles and restore traffic flow. Some motorists reported extended delays lasting more than an hour as traffic backed up onto connecting routes and interchanges throughout the Dublin corridor.

Traffic alerts issued by monitoring services indicated that several lanes were temporarily blocked following collisions, significantly reducing traffic movement during one of the busiest travel periods of the day. Authorities urged drivers to proceed with caution and consider alternate routes where possible.

The M50 has long been regarded as one of Ireland’s busiest and most congestion-prone motorways, particularly during morning and evening rush hours. Previous traffic data and reports have repeatedly highlighted the high number of accidents and traffic incidents occurring along the route each year.

Emergency services remained active at several locations Wednesday evening as crews continued working to clear the motorway and investigate the circumstances surrounding the collisions. Authorities have not publicly confirmed reports of serious injuries connected to the incidents at this stage.
